I have been following the One Room Challenge on Design Manifest and discovered this really cool an FANTABULOUS nightstand that I have been dreaming of creating myself since I found it. I am going to make this nightstand very soon but add a different little twist on it. Check out DM’s nightstand here and see below.

The most charming thing about this nightstand is she got the furniture piece from Ikea for around $40 and the brass corners from Hardware World for around $28, and the handles from Chinese Brass Ware for about $100. Check out the original post for more info as I am only sharing bits and pieces of the items.

I am going to recreate this nightstand but add my own twist to it. I might change the handles and I would like to add a design on the inside of the drawers such as the gold chevron prints below.

I loved this project and piece of furniture so much I had to share it with my readers. Are you tempted yet to create this piece of furniture? I will post pictures of mine when I do it. Thanks Design Manifest for sharing this!

To my pure DELIGHT I came across a free website for Vintage Posters! I gravitate toward anything vintage and anything with posters so this site was right up my alley! You can download these high resolution posters and print them or take them to get them printed (staples, kinkos, FedEx Office, etc.) in any size you want. Check out a few of my favorites below.

We wanted to start a new series of post where we look at a room that has been published and designed by someone else… dissect it…and find items that are similar to the ones in the room that are inexpensive but still have the same look. I mean isn’t that where you get inspiration from anyways, from someone else’s designs? Most of my clients that come to me bring me pictures in magazines signifying items in a room they like (if not the entire room) and tell me ” I WANT THIS ROOM”!

We decided to give you some examples and label our post “Refined Design” meaning we have refined the look of a given inspiration room with a similar style and a less expensive budget. These post will provide an inspiration room, a design board with items similar to the ones in the inspiration room, and a list of resources where you can purchase the items. We hope you enjoy the series of post as much as we enjoy putting them together!

We didn’t find the exact items in the inspiration room but we found ones that are similar and we actually like our look better…Funny how that happens! We don’t know how much the items are in the inspiration room ( I am guessing very expensive) but we do know how much they are in our Refined Design (listed below).

Last weekend we went on a little venture to Houston and Galveston. I have been needing to go to Houston to check out a few Interior Design resources and visited a few other places while we were there, including Galveston, TX. When we arrived in Galveston we noticed the streets were blocked and people were everywhere! Little did we know it was the first weekend for Mardi Gras in Galveston. We stayed at the Hotel Galvez on the seawall which is the oldest hotel on the island. This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE hotel to stay at because of the character and spanish architecture it has and it’s the most BEAUTIFUL hotel on the island! See our adventure below.

The BIG Mardi Gras parades are this weekend in Galveston because Fat Tuesday is next week. Therefore the festivities continue until then. I have already seen a few pictures on Facebook of the parades from last night and they look fun!

There is something stunning about a concrete shower and bathroom that takes my breath away. I have identified 5 reasons why I would have a concrete bathroom.

On our trip in Houston last weekend we decided to stop by the recently opened Biscuit Headquaters owned by Bailey McCarthy. Bailey is also the author of her awesome design blog Peppermint Bliss. Now I must say I admire this chic to the MAX! I absolutely LOVE her blog and have been following her for almost a year now and since we stopped by her store I am even more in love! Below are some of the pics I took while I as at Biscuit.

Bailey has a style that is different. She can put colors together that make sense to me. She normally uses bright and crazy colors together but her house in Houston has a soft color palette. Her new home was recently showcased in Matchbook Mag (love the article about them). I blogged about Bailey a while back when I first discovered her, check it out here.

As a professional interior designer (with lots of education) I would specify the bedding from Biscuit in a heartbeat! Can’t wait to use it on my next project. So if your in the Houston area, check out Biscuit Headquarters like we did, I promise it will be the highlight of your day…it was mine!!

Good Sunday Morning All! I have discovered another good little tool on the internet (like I did Chip It last weekend). Again, everyone may already know about this but I didn’t! I found this app called ifontmaker and you can make your own font. SO EXCITED!! The app cost $6.99 and you can download it on your iPad to create your fonts. Once your finished you can submit your font for publication. It took me about an hour to make my font. Check it out here.

I can’t wait to make more fonts with this nifty little tool. You can download my font and use it for non-commercial use (had to say that) here. Have you made any fonts with ifontmaker? If you have let me know, I want to see them. Post the link in a comment below.

P.S. We arrived in Galveston, TX last night and little did we know it was the 2nd day of Mardi Gras celebrations. So last night we skipped the play and went to the parades. We got mardi gras beads GALORE!!! Some of mine were very pretty. I will post pics of them later this week. We are off to the beach so my daughter can take her photos for class. We might even visit the historic strand for a little shopping…who knows!
